Opinion Polls
Some surveys try to find out what people think. These are called OPINION POLLS. The problems you had when finding facts also arise when finding opinions. Indeed, opinion polls lead to more problems.

Two Questionnaires
You will answer a questionnaire which includes some of these problems. The class will be divided into two equal teams, X and Y. Avoid putting all the pupils with the same views in one team.

What is a good way to divide the class?

There are two questionnaires, X and Y. They ask about the same subjects. Team X answers Questionnaire X. Team Y answers Questionnaire Y. When you know which team you are in, find your questionnaire. It is on page R1. You have five minutes to complete it.

Answers

a Complete the summary of answers on page R2.

Team X and Team Y should have similar views. For some questions on the questionnaire they may appear to be different. Take each pair of questions and answer the following.

b Did Teams X and Y give very different answers? If so, explain why the results are so different.
c What errors are there in the questions?
* d If both questions in X and Y have faults, write a better question.
